Week44: Rooting For The Cylons?

I haven’t experienced illness that has put me down for days on end in almost three years until this week. The stress of running the Nuclear Winter Formal wiped me out completely. I took a pretty large financial loss on the event, and that made everything much worse. So this week I ended up lying in bed, to feverish to focus on reading or writing or thinking. Instead I watched all of seasons 1 and 2 of the modern Battlestar Galactica…

The stress of worrying everyday and night about what I can do to help foster rewilding cultures as fast as I can in hopes that people will dismantle civilization and rewild the planet in time to save what we have left and promote more biodiversity feels excruciatingly exhausting at times. In order to reduce some of the stress I feel, I sometimes need a vacation from thinking about how fucked the world looks. Some people take drugs or travel to exotic places… I watch entire television seasons in a matter of days. Even though I know that watching TV works on my brain, and stories train my perception of the world, and most if not all tv shows project terrible civilized world views… I can’t help it.

I’ve said it many times before that I hate robots. When I heard that Battlestar Galactica involved “humans vs. robots… in space!” I knew I would probably enjoy it. And yet, something strange has happened to me while watching the show… I think I have begun to have empathy for robots. The plot of Battlestar Galactica is that humans created robots called “Cylons” to perform slave labor. The Cylons got sick of it and fought back which ended in the Cylons leaving for 40 years, than coming back and nearly wiping out the human race in a matter of minutes, all out of revenge for the humans never treating them like people. Of course civilization doesn’t treat the robots with respect. Civilization doesn’t even treat their own species with respect, nor anything else but the mythology of the system.

So, in that sense I tend to side with the robots. Just because civilization doesn’t think the earth and its other-than-humans deserve respect means that the other-than-humans will most surely nearly wipe out all of us in civilization. Okay, so I admit I’ve had to grasp for straws there… and the show totally promotes hierarchy and military bullshit, not to mention no landbase or ANY other-than-humans (they all got killed too?). But anyway. I needed a vacation, so I took it in space where I could watch robots lay waste to civilization. Pretty sweet.

Enough television techno babble. Let’s get down to business. Last week I said I would brainstorm things to do for this blog. As promised:

Urban Scout’s Weekly Laundry List for Week 45:

1. Get off ass.
2. Scout wapato harvesting grounds.
3. Edit Nuclear Winter Formal video.
4. Compile list of all tending strategies known for horticulture.
5. Write and post blog on making Doug Fir tea.

…Don’t fuck this up Scout.

  1. Also, by posting a commercial image of civilized myth-propaganda on this pristine and lily-green rewilding blog you have sold out on such a profound level that I have to re-evaluate what it means to totally hock one’s own spiritual real estate to the mall developers of our souls.

Against my better judgement, I salute you.

    Cylon scum.
